My doctor proscribed amtidepresseants due to what she later (in an offical letter) described as 'immature behaviour' though at the time she claimed it was for depression. My only symptoms were extreme insomnia and I was quite happy. I did have extreme disdain for the culture I lived in (especially intense status competition) though I would charchterise this as a warranted belief rather than a result of any pathology. 2

Nothing, but I was told to go to therapy after being stuck for precisely 3 weeks in a United Health Services-run hospital. The main issue was to handle the extremely poor psychiatric treatment I'd received, including being fed dopamine antagonists (i.e. risperdone) which naturally made me feel horrible. The hospital warped my sense of reality once acute delusions passed and I "came to" in a psychiatric ward. The unrealistically horrible and nonsensical treatment by Fairfax Hospital in Kirkland made me think I was literally out of this world, because it was impossible for American-run "top-rated" psychiatric hospitals to be so awful at treatment in so many ways without a conspiracy behind it. The official diagnosis was bipolar disorder; after refusing dopamine antagonists and lithium, my mood improved from the first depression I'd ever felt in my life, and I never "relapsed" since. (This incident occurred 6 years ago.) I was told to commit myself voluntarily or it would be processed as an involuntary commitment.2

Tricky to answer because I still "have it" but it doesn't bother me and in fact I think it might just be that the visual "snow" I experience was always there, and psychedelic use just made me aware of it. 1

Crime175
Country is already too crowded170
Terrorism risk30
All of the above10
Overuse of social safety net (there is no "may" in Scandinavia, refugees are inarguably a *massive* net drain as shown in study after study)2
1,5,6,7 are all important.2
Decline in national IQ2
economic factors + country is already too crowded2
competition for resources for native-born citizens, and I don't think the immigrants have any intention of staying in this country. Many whom I met or who have expressed their views want to leave ASAP2
Emergent properties of failed integration 2
Prefer to help other countries improve conditions so fewer people need to migrate2
read 'Immigration Opponents:' too late, cannot unselect all.2
Fucking Russians2
Political backlash2
Declining trust and increasing inequality2
Crime (including terrorism), industrial espionage, overuse of services2
We are not building enough infrastructure to keep up.2
Changes sex ratios/immigrants are more sexist and homophobic2
Israel is for Jews tired of the experiment of living as a minority, and its many thrilling historical results. Gods of the Copybook Headings, etc.2
Cannot suport current world population at comfortable first wirld standards with current tech without causing excessive pollution and damage to biosphere. It's harder to let people die, or to look away while they are murdered if they are already your neighbors.2
Infrastructure, housing and under 30s training oppurtunities, and divisive communities need to be in a better position before we focus on increasing overall net migration2
Importing economic and social destiny2
IQ reduction2
IQ differences & affirmative action/diversity/inclusion2
This is a cop out, but it's the confluence of most of those issues, not just one of them.2
eroding social trust/social contract2
Finnish immigration forbids workers but allows non workers to come. So it filters people abusing social security as if you want to work you get kicked out. 2
Brain drain from countries that require those individuals to uplift their socity to modern standards2
Long term effect on institutions; brain drain on countries they come from. I prefer foreign aid/effective altruism to improve other countires2
Drain of talent from sending country2
Need orderly way to support new immigrants with jobs, social services, etc2
1, 2 5, 6, 72
Immigration creates serious social externalities.2
Prefer a radical libertarian approach - borders set by property owners, neither closed nor open2
Mostly because germany isn't great at integrating them, and nobody has any clue how to change that.2
Syria, Lebanon. I worry a democracy cannot survive having no dominant ethnicity, or no socially created one. 2
right-wing parties abuse the few problems, I fear their power2
Mistake click2
Many of these reasons resonated, not sure which resonated most.2
Gumball problem, can't solve poverty by bringing people to the US, must help other countries achieve prosperity by plugging brain drain2
There is a risk of dividing a country into many competing interests if immigrants have no will to integrate, or even learn the host language.2
Several of these2
Most of these reasons, can't rate one higher than the others2
All of above, but not in equal measure2
Large amounts of immigration lead to ghettos instead of assimilation.2
Social order and moral discipline2
Negative effects of brain drain on rest of world2
Oops I support immigration2
Seems like it could lead to less national unity and more cultural/political confusion eg "I don't like those people who are afraid of immigrants, they're great people!" No strong preference for my own culture.2
I support more immigration but replace low-skill with high-skill because country will benefit more2
Dysgenics2
crime, economic, welfare, national identity -- all equally2
Biological replacement by immigrants and their descendants2
Will form parallel structures and socienties in the country and not mix with the rest of society.2
made a mistake answering2
current systems lets undeserving in and keeps good people out2
misclick, sorry2
Some new immigrant groups seem to be assimilating poorly, leading to persistent segregation, inequality and resentment. Over multiple generations, this could lead to conflict, perhaps even balkanization of the US. Additionally, white American birth rates are below replacement value, so immigration from higher birth rate groups could lead to significant dilution of current population and culture, long term.2
Systems function best when the majority follows the rules. The current system needs a major overhaul before it's usable again, limited legal until then makes sense. 2
Misclick2
Almost all of the above2
Crime; terrorism risk; economic factors, eg fewer jobs for native-born citizens; may overuse welfare and other public services without contributing as much2
STRONGLY all of the above EXCEPT Jobs and Overcrowding2
Worse for country people are immigrating from2
System abuse. The welfare + changing politics option, but not mainly through the proper channels of welfare or voting.2
Devastating effects on labour markets and lower echelons of society. Not using economic factors because there are broader social consequences as well, including environmental.2
Increasing atomization and alienation caused by people unable to relate to one another and neighbours having nothing in common.2
china taiwan issue2
Overall net loss2
Risk of political backlash2
Really all but the last two I see as the same, so that above all2
People value what is scarce, citizenship should be earned through hard work2
I don't generally favor less immigration, but would substantially change the way our immigration system works2
Those are all reasonable concerns, under certain circumstances2
Smart Fraction2
Our infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne (mostly physical, but somewhat social as well) is just not coping. Very little actual thought has gone into immigration policy, beyond 'it's good for the economy and thus my chances of re-election.'2
clicked by mistake, sorry2
Immigrants will not be granted the franchise, reducing democracy. Or they will, increasing demagoguery.2
Basically changing national identity and culture, but especially re women's rights2
A mixture of change of culture which leads to different policies, and economic factors2
Much immigration is a symptom which should be freely permitted. However, the negative underlying causes (bad conditions in immigrants' origin countries) should be alleviated as much as feasible, leaving only positive motives.2
Cultural habbits of raping people for fun2
Changing culture, but with culture as the 4th branch of government2
A complicated melange of all of the above - immigration shouldn't be a default right for anyone who wants to move, but should be available under appropriate conditions2
You’re missing the distinction between immigration (I support) and illegal immigration (I oppose). This strikes to the heart of rule of law, role of the nation-state, etc. 2
The country isn't already too crowded, but I worry about pressure on services if current immigration levels are kept up.2
lower social trust / solidarity2
All of the above2
Not worried about crime/terrorism very much. May overuse welfare, also contribute to rising house prices and congestion. Also cultural incompatibilities (I.e. areas of people who don’t integrate at all).2
There's a required infrastructure to take care of immigrants and making sure they can get a good life and that infrastructure can't handle an infinite amount of people. So for the sake of securing that immigrants can get the best possible chance of a good life the immigration can't be completely open. 2
All of them, except economic factors2
There's no way to deselect something we accidentally click. Already redone this once.2
honor vs trust2
Following the rule of Law (leagal limits are lower than number who arrive)2
Far right rise as backlash2
Immigration can cause societal disturbances if there is too much too fast - note the Trump presidency2

Soviet-style central planning and dictatorship of the proletariat47
A free-ish market system, but with worker-owned companies, a good social safety net, and other similar changes1,390
Something close to anarchy on a national level, with indvidual communities stepping up to govern themselves and eventually federating in whatever way is best for them336
Not necessary to worry about this now; a true communist revolution in a fully-developed capitalist country would solve this problem in some way more elegant than people having opinions about it115

Support this as an option, and believe the current regulations around this are about right
Support this as an option, but believe it should be harder and more strictly regulated
Oppose this entire system, it should be impossible to force nonconsenting mentally ill people into treatment (except possibly as part of a criminal verdict)
To help with anger, irritability, or impulsivity
difficult withdrawal; tapered over time…
Yes, although never discontinued the SSRI I talked about above, I discontinued another SSRI and will fill out the questions below about that one (if several, choose the most recent)
I stopped by accident because I wasn't able to get a refill of my prescription
I stopped on purpose, without consulting a doctor, and decided to go off "cold turkey"

I stopped on purpose, I did consult my doctor, and together we decided I would go off "cold turkey"

Remember having moderate issues that caused significant distress but were not disabling
Remember having severe issues that seriously impacted my quality of life
I got off the SSRI and am now on a different non-SSRI psychiatric medication
I decided to go back on the SSRI because coming off was too hard / too much withdrawal
I decided to go back on the SSRI because my mental health got worse when I was off it
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Psychoanalytic / psychodynamic / Freudian
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
Eye movement directed reprocessing (EMDR)
I did over ten years of counselling and misc therapy. Now doing CBT from books.
Both from a book (Feeling Good, Burns) as adult and private trained therapist as a kid, because I wouldn't fit in with classmates
From books but with occasional advice from a trained therapist
Vague sense of personal aimlessness / trying to get life back on track
Learned of the concept of CBT over the course of 2 hours, been practising it on my own for 10 years

"Open relationship" - I have one primary partner, but we're allowed to date other people on the side
"Stable polycule" - like a couple, but with more than two members. Stable and mostly self-contained, although may have some less serious relationships on the side
"Relationship anarchy" - the above options still seem too much like monogamy to me; I don't want any of my relationships to be more official than any others
Changing national identity and culture
May overuse welfare and other public services without contributing as much
Economic factors, eg fewer jobs for native-born citizens
Changing politics, eg immigrants will vote for bad policy
Country is already too crowded
Anarcho-capitalism: no government, not even for basic policing and defense are privatized
A free-ish market system, but with worker-owned companies, a good social safety net, and other similar changes
Something close to anarchy on a national level, with indvidual communities stepping up to govern themselves and eventually federating in whatever way is best for them
Not necessary to worry about this now; a true communist revolution in a fully-developed capitalist country would solve this problem in some way more elegant than people having opinions about it
