You probably won’t read this, but regarding the recent css redesign of the website, it would be helpful if the search feature were somewhere higher up (ideally imo at the top of the right panel, where (again imo) it fits in better thematically), because otherwise nobody will ever use it (and will just use google site:slatestarcodex.com instead).

(I hope you won’t be offended by a random person off the internet giving you suggestions regarding the appearance of your website.)

As a far-left liberal, I just want to chime in and say that I find the criticisms Alraune levels on progressive culture to be broadly accurate and on-point, though perhaps not charitable (and also occasionally not on-point).

The strongest part for me is progressives’ near dogmatic rejection of criticism of Islamic extremists, often conflating such criticism with bigoted criticism of local Muslim immigrant populations. It doesn’t seem dissimilar to how progressives often conflate criticizing affluent powerful cis straight white men with criticizing poor powerless cis straight white men, using the former to justify the latter.

I think a psychiatrist can be a therapist, but doesn’t have to be. My wife’s shrink asks her about five minutes of questions once every three months, then re-writes her prescriptions.

So… does a psychiatrist not count as a therapist? I don’t have a lot of experience with this world so I may not be caught up on all the semantics.

My perspective is that if I’m seeking out someone to whom I am going to go and discuss my mental health problems, I am “seeking therapy.” Is that not the case?

The solution to the first one is probably the internet. If posting comments is to slow to qualify as interaction, you could always try something like IRC, though I’d be prepared to wade miles through the mud before you find the conversations you want there

We all seem to like weird philosophical stuff around here though so you’re probably in the right place.
